| What started it all In Thunder Bay, intolerance has risen to unacceptable levels in the lifetime of seniors and should be unacceptable to all fellow residents. This is a senior citizens initiative to help stop intolerance and isolation of all seniors. We have an increasing number of First Nations Seniors moving into Thunder Bay who have found increasing difficulty with the cultural changes they have found resulting in a numbing isolation. We at George Wardrope Court began a dialogue on how we could help in September 2005 at an association meeting. After considerable debate, a course of action was adopted. To help remove isolation we would need to communicate on every level. First an acknowledgement of First Nations Culture would be essential so we voted to have a traditional mini pow-wow and a strawberry festival all in one day so both sides could experience the other in a gathering of friends. But that would be only day one. Communication must be on going, so we began what we now call the Carolyn Internet Cafe to help all seniors communicate better. With family, friends and just to increase the quality of life for all. The Carolyn Internet Cafe is where seniors can come to learn and enjoy the computer in an non judgemental, non competitive environment with personal and continuous support. We also began a newsletter which is distributed free to over five hundred apartments in the city so far. The newsletter is written entirely by seniors living in those five hundred apartments. And of course there is this web site which is dedicated to record every step of the journey in what we have called The Family of Friends. Join us on this journey and turn away from the path we as a city has been on. Do not let intolerance allow one citizen not to be as free and equal as the next. Join THE FAMILY OF FRIENDS.
